Nilesh J. Patel, MD. will present on ADD, ADHD, and current thoughts on medications and treatments. Dr. Patel is currently in private practice, has conducted research on numerous medications, and provided services in public mental health clinics for many years.

Yogic Wisdom and Practice in Counseling. Linda Ann Stelljes, M.A., LPC, has special interests in clinical hypnosis, pain management, existential issues, creativity enhancement, as well as meditation and yoga. This presentation will focus on Linda's formal and informal training in the areas of yoga and meditation, and she will share how others with dual interests in yoga and psychotherapy approach counseling issues, Lastly, she will offer ideas for incorporating these interests into your counseling.

Community Resources Panel Discussion will be presented by representatives of Mental Health America- Fort Bend (formerly Mental Health Association of Fort Bend), The Council on Alcohol And Drugs Houston, The United Way, and Mental Health Association Houston. Handouts will be available, and at the end, attendees will be asked to share their best resource info. Please bring this to share.

September 7, 2007

As a result of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, Victoria Jones, M.A., M.Ed. LPC, will present a program entitled "Traumatology 101". She has been extensively trained in dealing with trauma through a 2-year program at the Houston Galveston Trauma Institute, as well as through her own private practice. In addition, she teaches an 8 week workshop on trauma. Program will cover the definition and effects of trauma, as well as treatment approaches and issues.

October 5, 2007

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. HLPCA Past President, Sherry Malcomb Gill, M.A., L.P.C. L.M.F.T. along with Brenda Leiber, M.A., L.P.C., L.P.A., will present on "Myths about Domestic Violence & Common Mistakes Made in Therapy". Sherry has over 30 years counseling experience and she and Brenda are co-directors of New Solutions, founded in 1999.  The goal of New Solutions is to "promote social change leading to cultural values that prohibit rather than support abuse in relationships."
